In All About Love, feminist cultural critic bell hooks uses anecdote, psychology and personal history to discuss the ways in which people, especially women, are asked by social institutions (the family, the school) to believe that we are loved even when we are not treated with respect or care. Examining the cultural repercussions of love often enacted by men as domination, distance, disrespect she helps us to redefine love as self-love, respect, compassion and trust.
